Milkweed makes a request

Minneapolis-based publisher Milkweed Editions is suspending the shipment of direct orders through milkweed.org until April 13. In the meantime, publisher/CEO Daniel Slager suggested donations to important causes in an email in which he wrote: “We are determined to contribute to positive transformation as we emerge from this crisis. … We are also mindful that this is a moment when inequities are particularly trying and needs incomprehensibly great, and we encourage you to consider (these causes) which are directly aiding communities in need.” He lists the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, a safety net for booksellers affected by COVID-19; Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, providing free legal assistance to Asian Americans and Asian immigrants who have been the targets of increased discrimination in this pandemic: PEN America, which has relaunched and expanded their Writers’ Emergency Fund, a lifeline for writers facing severe hardship, and Doctors Without Borders.
