March 6 — Join AALDEF at the UN for a Women’s History Month Presentation “Women’s Economic Opportunity: A Solution for Trafficking in Persons”
The global economic crisis has adversely impacted economic opportunities for women. Migrant women from low-income countries have been particularly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Often engaging in work that has been historically undervalued, such as domestic work or other low-wage industries, this panel will explore various approaches to help women gain economic security. Anti-trafficking experts will discuss legal remedies, employment prospects, and opportunities for reinvesting in women.

Speakers will include:
Florrie Burke, Consultant on Human Trafficking
Crystal DeBoise, Co-Director of the Sex Workers Project of the Urban Justice Center
Avaloy Lanning, Senior Director of the Anti-Trafficking Program at Safe Horizon
Ivy O. Suriyopas, Staff Attorney at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF)
Suzanne Tomatore, Director of the Immigrant Women and Child Project at City Bar Justice Center
