NEW YORK — Today, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) issued the below statement on the swearing in of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court.

“Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson brings tremendous experience and temperament to the highest court in our country. Justice Jackson steps into this role at a critical time as the integrity of the Supreme Court hangs in the balance. She represents a perspective all too often neglected by the Court, especially in its recent decision to overturn decades of legal precedents on women’s health and abortion access, an issue important to women of color, including the over 10 million Asian American women in this country. We welcome Justice Jackson and look forward to her contributions to American jurisprudence. We also wish Justice Stephen Breyer the best in his retirement and thank him for his role in landmark rulings on a range of important issues including health care access, voter rights protection, and diversity in higher education,” said Margaret Fung, Executive Director, Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF).
