NEW YORK, NY — The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) shared the below statement in response to the brutal killing of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five police officers in Memphis, Tennessee.

“We support the family of Tyre Nichols and the community behind them demanding justice. His murder was a horrific abuse of power by police and a continuation of the painful trend of Black people being brutally hurt or killed by police during traffic stops. It is hard to imagine an encounter more violent than the one captured in the footage released today and that this was what these officers were willing to do knowing full well that the cameras were rolling,” said Margaret Fung, executive director of the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF).
