Asian Americans continued to support Democratic candidates in high-profile elections around the country last week, new exit polling data shows.

In the Virginia gubernatorial election and the Boston and New York mayoral races, Asian Americans overwhelmingly voted for Democrats, Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund preliminary polling results showed, which experts say is consistent with recent election cycles.

AALDEF polled more than 2,500 Asian American voters in person on Election Day in English as well as six Asian languages, including Bengali, Chinese, Khmer, Korean, Nepali and Vietnamese.

Jerry Vattamala, democracy program director at AALDEF, said the voting bloc remained steadfast in candidate choice and on policies.

“We asked issue questions … and they’re all very strong on these liberal positions on reproductive rights and immigration,” he said.
